Who Keeps You Flying? Airplane owners KNOW that the family is the real ‘support crew’ for the airplane. If the spouse, kids, and friends enjoy the airplane, the sacrifices necessary to keep flying ‘just happen’. Make the airplane central to a good time for everyone by heading off to the CPS Fly-In California coming this June!
By the time you’re receiving this comm, the California Fly In at KFUL will be just around the corner. Reservations made? Preparations complete? It may seem like a long way off but we all know that proper pre-planning prevents poor performance. As most are seasoned travelers we know this is preaching to the choir, but now is a good time to collect one’s thoughts and get the ducks in a row. We’re going to have a great time.
In the tradition of every CPS gathering of years past, Mike Jesch has gone far and above any reasonable expectation to set a place in his home-town to make us feel welcome. He has events on the schedule, a fly-out or two, a couple of nice tours and ‘something for everyone’. Your family and friends will actually say "thank you" for taking them along. Read about it here http://www.cessna-pilots.net/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=314333#Post314333

Cessna Pilots Society welcomes our new Members. …
Some fellow flyers, displaced from their previous internet home by matters beyond their control, have joined us at CPS. The vast majority of those new folks have shown an intellect and courtesy-of-conduct in keeping with our expectations, and we are pleased to have them joining our ranks. If you see an unfamiliar name in a post, spend a moment to say ‘welcome’. If you’re gathering for a fly-in or perhaps something as simple as a Sunday breakfast flight, consider reaching out to these new folks and invite them to join in.
CPS has always been a gentle blend of technical and social interests, expressed with just a bit of grace by a gathering that embraces civility. Please help our newest Members feel at home. Leadership is always by example.
To our new friends. Please flesh out your profiles, and do let us know what you fly, and from where. Replies to your inquiries are more easily targeted with this information at hand. We look forward to your participation and hope you enjoy the CPS style.
Rolling Out The Welcome Mat Again! : Cessnas 2 Oshkosh (C2O): We are pleased to announce that our allies at C2O will (soon) find a new sub-forum under our ‘Destinations’ header. While C2O is a separate independent organization, C2O announcements and discussion are open to all of the CPS family for their consideration. Note: Qualification to participate in the Oshkosh arrival requires C2O-specific training and subsequent sign-off in advance. For those considering joining the C2O mass arrival, you now have a location specific forum for Q and A. The principals from C2O will soon be populating this new section w/ announcements and links. http://www.cessna-pilots.net/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=65&page=1

OpEd:
With Winter kicked off the calendar, Spring has finally arrived. We’ve mostly all seen some warm days that make us again cast our eyes to the sky. Adventure and fun awaits!
Be it a weekend get-away with family and friends, or maybe just a local flight to get back into the rhythm of flight, it is important to take a couple extra moments to be extra careful. While many of us are sharp (most have been flying all winter because cold and misery is just an accepted part of owning an airplane), many pilots have been dormant all winter. Some just hop in and hope for the best. Protect against those folks by staying eyes-out.
They’re rusty. You can hear it in the radio calls, the hesitancy in the voice. You can see it in the air, the neglect for common sense and courtesy. You just got cut off by some meathead going NORDO in the pattern? It’s a Spring tradition. Some wing-nut in a lawn chair being propelled by a chain-saw engine decide to land with the wind and unannounced? Folks parading around the pattern without their lights on/eyes-out/brains engaged? Aggravating but almost expected. Try not to let it derail your good time, but let us all be extra attentive as the rest of aviation slowly rubs the winter’s sleep from their eyes.
If you have been quiescent over the winter, make those first couple trips aloft with a trusted CFI or at least with a friendly fellow pilot that is sharp and current. Let them help with an extra set of eyes and hands that are practiced. Once you’re sharp, remember to offer to keep watch for the next guy in line.
Free Manuals..
Marvel-Schebler/Precision Carburetors: Troubleshooting manuals and service bulletins for Marvel-Schebler carburetors were available free at the time of this posting. The Forum Board strongly recommends that you consider downloading the documents appropriate to your airplane to your permanent aviation library at your first opportunity.
http://www.cessna-pilots.net/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=312017#Post312017
Cessna Corporate is continuing to offer parts manual downloads for many models on their website. We encourage you to download and safeguard a copy of these vital records so that you’ll always have them available. A thumb-drive kept in the airplane for use during your travels might be a good idea.

The Forum Board again would like to emphasize the importance of securing your own personal download. Relying on off-site hosting for such critical documents may not be 100% reliable. We suggest you protect your interests by downloading a copy to your own personal aviation library.
Continental Engine Manuals: Continental has made available many engine manuals for free download. Your Forum Board encourages every owner/operator to take advantage of this resource.
