CPS Newsletter: April 2016

Special Focus:  Annual CPS Gathering:  New Brunswick Maine -Get your plans in order!

The weather is turning from Winter to Spring, and you're thinking about how nice it would be to have a true "Family Friendly Destination".  You want to go somewhere where your spouse/kids/friends would enjoy themselves.  You want to use the airplane and ensure your group has a good time.

After all, you bought it to travel to special places.  Problem is that most organized fly-ins cater strictly to the pilot, (or more pointedly, at the person writing the cheques).  We all know how the big fly-in trips turn out when non-pilots are ‘dragged along’.   You’re happy, they’re miserable.  Non-pilots can only walk so many rows of pilot stuff for sale before they’ve had more than their fill…
You are smart. You understand that the family is the ‘support vehicle’ for the airplane.  You want a place to go by air where everyone (everyone) has things to do, wonders to see, and says ‘thank you for taking me along’ when the trip is done.

Enter the annual CPS fly-in…  We’re not about selling anything.  Even your Membership is free.

CPS fly-ins are hosted by volunteer Members just like you. They go to great lengths to ensure a varied palate of activities, and ensure that everyone in your party will feel welcome. This year we again have a beauty of a spot with our Fly In being hosted by Jane and John Marden up in Freeport Maine. Rugged beautiful seacoast views, the splendor of Maine in Summer, and the company of a variety of individuals that care more about the people than what they fly.

At CPS, we champion the use of the airplane to reach a destination, but it is not a requirement. This yearly event regularly has Members flying coast to coast (and everywhere in between) to attend, and they're  flying every type of airplane imaginable.  Have a 172 and concerned about getting over or through the Mountains?  We have Members that have done just that, and literally coast-to-coast. There is nothing holding you back.  Go to the Forums and ask questions.  You’ll be answered with respect, and guided to resources that will ease your way.

From Wednesday June 22 through Sunday June 26, 2016,  we will be gathered at KBXM Brunswick Maine. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KBXM.

Jane and John have secured a nice Hotel, met with the FBO people, prepped some fun activities, and are welcoming us to their neck of the country.  They’ve arranged for rental cars, nice food (cause no one has ever starved to death at a CPS fly-in), and also allowed for some ‘slack time’ so that you and yours can go out exploring this unique and special place.  No pressure, do as much or as little as you wish.

Amongst other things, we’ve got a mini-fly-out for Thursday destined for KBHB in Bar Harbor and a day in the Acadia National Park.  (Passenger vans are being brought down for our use for the day). There is talk of a Whale Watch Cruise on Friday, and we’re all going to invade John’s brother’s place on Saturday for a traditional shore dinner to wind things up.

Throughout it all, there is no motive other than fellowship.   It is an unique sort of fly-in.  Participants that are between airplanes still show up and are welcomed. Folks that cannot or prefer not to fly themselves often chose to arrive via silver tube (the airlines) and ‘hitch a ride’ for the fly-outs.  We always make a place for our CPS family Members.   You should come along.

There is still time to plan to attend.  Get yourself and your family/friends jazzed up for the idea.  Maine is a stunner.   Links follow.  Your host and your Forum Board can be counted upon to offer some assistance and we LOVE answering questions from first timer attendees.

You have been privileged to see some of the beauty of our USA in a manner that is reserved for those that can fly.  Now it is time to share that beauty with your friends and family.

Spring is here:  Most of us have been flying and maintaining proficiency all winter.  For those that were ‘down’ due to maintenance, logistics, or just the weather, please take a moment to review and assess both the airplane and the sharpness of your skills before getting back into fighting form.  If you’ve been inactive, this is a good time to polish up w/ a CFI helping hone the edges.

Special thanks as always: to those that take the time to share experience and counsel on our forums. Your generosity of self sets the CPS standard.

Wrap-Up:

Facebook: Don’t forget that CPS is also on Facebook! Stop by and remember to hit the 'like' button: CPS Facebook Presence

CPS Shirts and Logo-Wear: are available on-line direct buy from our vendor. Enjoy good quality team-wear and be the envy of everyone on the ramp in your snappy duds. Find your size HERE!

Reminder:  While cold weather and spritely winds may challenge those breakfast gatherings and impromptu get-togethers, our Membership is still flying. We’re honing up the skill-set, and training for that next rating. When Spring arrives, we’ll be sharp, current, and confident. Winter need not mean the airplane goes unused, just use good sense, dress warm, and enjoy the beauty of flight.

Special thanks to those that take the time to share experience and counsel on our forums. Your generosity of self sets the CPS standard.

That ties things up for this issue of CPS NOTAMS. See you on the forums.

‘NOTAMS’ is the newsletter of the Cessna Pilots Society.  “CPS” is an all-volunteer group of aviation enthusiasts who maintain a forum for the unofficial exchange of ideas relating to technical, operational, and functional issues relating specifically to Cessna aircraft.  We provide a venue whereby the members may also choose to discuss destinations, and other subjects that touch on the aviation lifestyle.  No political discussions are permitted. The daily workings of CPS are overseen by a Board of Directors that also moderate the forum if needed. We also welcome members that fly other brands who wish to participate for the friendship, and unique access to a diverse set of good minds.   Dedicated owners, operators, AMT’s and all aviation enthusiasts are welcome at CPS.

The Cessna Pilots Society is not affiliated or endorsed by Cessna/Textron Corporation or its subsidiaries. All Cessna model designations and models are the property/trademark of Cessna/Textron.
