We're California Bound: CPS 2017 Fly-In
Here's the Link! CPS GTG 2017
June 21– 25, 2017. Time is getting short to make your plans to take part in the 2017 CPS Gathering in Fullerton CA.
With fly-outs for the pilots, ground activities for the non-pilots, and the wonder of California, this is a trip for friends and=the entire family (AKA: Your airplane support crew)
This is the time to be finalizing any outstanding maintenance items so your bird is ready to fly to California. Do not 'put it off' and press maintenance to the last moment. Starting out on a trip with the confidence inspired by being ahead on needed maintenance makes every trip far easier for all concerned.
AOPA Fly-in at Camarillo CA: PIREP
Dan Barley and Mike Jesch both played a big role in seeing that your Cessna Pilots Society was well represented at the Camarillo fly-in. Dan hosted the CPS Booth and Mike J hosted a CPS sponsored fly out to Catalina Island!
Both of these guys went above and beyond for our group and are deserving of our gratitude. As Mike is a current part of the Forum Board and Dan has served that post in the past, it is little surprise that their sense of loyalty and spirit of volunteerism shone through yet again. Dan was even working on his birthday..... :)

Elections:
Nominations Close / Forum Board Elections Conclude:
Nominations for two positions on the Forum Board closed on May 8 as planned. With two candidates and two open positions, an election process was deemed unnecessary. As of 5/15/17, Don Tedrow returns for a full term and we welcome Daryl Medd to his new position on our Forum Board.
Please offer a word of thanks to these gentle men who have agreed to help lead our Cessna Pilots Society. A volunteer led society needs true leaders to step forward and help row the boat. Special thanks to these new volunteers and for all those who have served in the past.
Your Current (New) CPS Forum Board includes: Lisa Frankewich, Pedro Giralt, Mike Jesch, Daryl Medd, Don Tedrow. Steve Snyder remains as our Liason official with our appreciation for his continued service. Doug Oakley also shall continue in service as our AOPA Liason Official. Thanks to these gentlemen for their efforts and achievements.
New Alliances, New Friends:
We are especially pleased to report that Cessna Pilots Society and Cessnas to Oshkosh have allied and those of you attending Osh will find the CPS Banner on display at the C2O tent. Rodney, Craig, and Gil have a section of our Forums to discuss the C2O arrival and we are very happy to have those guys again discussing this fun event here at the CPS. Welcome to all.

Special Note: Planned Outage for CPS 5/20 2000 through 5/21 0600 EDT
A planned outage of CPS should be anticipated by all the Membership for the times as indicated. The server that hosts our Web presence will be powering down for planned maintenance. It is anticipated that this planned maintenance should yield even greater reliability down the road.
We are aware that many remember the early days when CPS first started. A sub-standard delivered spotty reliability. While that was many years back, the memory is tough to forget. Thankfully, since we have transitioned to the current provider, and with the constant tending of a concerned and hands-on administrator that has ensured we always have the latest updated software, the last (seven) years have seen exceptional up-time that has far exceeded even the most optimistic of expectations. We expect that will continue. Don't let this temporary planned outage make you nervous.
Op Ed: You're never really done inspecting for mistakes:
This last month saw something pretty peculiar. A respected A/P caught an error wherein a cable chafe guard had been incorrectly installed and apparently had been passing inspection despite that issue for many years.
You can read about it here: http://www.cessna-pilots.net/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=325441#Post325441
The above ''passed muster" and got by a bunch of eyes before being caught and recognized as the hazardous condition it was till just this year. It takes an eagle eye to really scrutinize these airframes for odd--ball errors, some of which have been in place since day one leaving the factory. If/When your A/P calls to say he's found something strange on your airplane, remember that those same eyes belong to a true team-mate in safety. Say 'thank you', show some appreciation, and shake their hand. Good AMTs are vital to your continued well-being. They deserve your respect.
Hope to see you all at the GTG just a bit more than a month away!
CPS is also on Facebook! Thanks to Lisa Frankewich for heading up this effort. Stop by and remember to hit the 'like' button.

Free Manuals..
Marvel-Schebler/Precision Carburetors: Troubleshooting manuals and service bulletins for Marvel-Schebler carburetors were available free at the time of this posting. The Forum Board strongly recommends that you consider downloading the documents appropriate to your airplane to your permanent aviation library at your first opportunity.
Cessna Corporate is continuing to offer parts manual downloads for many models on their website. We encourage you to download and safeguard a copy of these vital records so that you’ll always have them available. A thumb-drive kept in the airplane for use during your travels might be a good idea.

These Manuals have gone through periods where they have become unavailable without notice.. The current link "https://support.cessna.com/custsupt/csupport/newlogin.jsp" seems to be up and running again..Your Forum Board will try to keep the links updated with your help. Please help us keep the Membership apprised .
The Forum Board again would like to emphasize the importance of securing your own personal download. Relying on off-site hosting for such critical documents may not be 100% reliable. We suggest you protect your interests by downloading a copy to your own personal aviation library.
Continental Engine Manuals: Continental has made available many engine manuals for free download. Your Forum Board encourages every owner/operator to take advantage of this resource.
Special thanks as always: to those that take the time to share experience and counsel on our forums. Your generosity of self sets the CPS standard.
